This lightweight, woven patterned linen scarf, has been made from antique Japanese woven Kusakizome fabric, which was originally used for making kimonos. The background is a dark indigo blue with a woven orange and cream pattern, the colours were produced by botanical dying known as Kusakizome. The ends have been hand hemmed.
Please note - this is antique fabric, but is in amazing condition with no marks, discolouration or fading.

Kusakizome - fabrics dyed with plant juices extracted from flowers, leaves, stems and roots. Lye and alum are used as mordants. The dyeing method of Kusakizome was practiced in Japan until around 1925.
