Antique Japanese Kurume Kasuri Fabric Boro Scarf
A length of woven Japanese history... patterned with Kasuri - the blurred edges of threads in deep indigo and white, softened by time, now reimagined to be worn again as a flowing scarf for men or women.
This beautiful lightweight indigo blue patterned scarf has been made from antique Japanese woven momen fabric called Kurume Kasuri, which was used for making kimonos and yukatas. It has an original fabric Boro patch and the ends have been hemmed.
Please note - this is antique fabric, as such it has areas of natural colour shading or discolouration variations due to its indigo dyeing process and age. It has one small coloured spot as well as a Boro patch.

Kasuri - The Japanese term for a traditional weaving technique where threads are dyed with a resist dying method before weaving, creating a blurred or fuzzy pattern in the final fabric. Essentially a type of Ikat dyeing specific to Japan, characterised by soft geometric designs and often associated with indigo dyed cotton fabrics.
Kurume kasuri - Is a well known type of kasuri from the city of Kurume in Japan.
Boro patch - Refers to a piece of material used to repair worn clothing or textiles which involves layering scraps of fabric and stitching them together.
Momen - Means a high quality cotton fabric known for its durability and absorbency.
